OECD 205/OCSPP 850.2200: Dietary toxicity test

The avian dietary toxicity test evaluates dietary toxicity of test chemicals to subjects, according to environmental effects test regulations.

Test subjects are administered the chemical in their food for five consecutive days. Mortality and abnormal behavior are recorded during the exposure period and for at least 3 additional days. The mortality response pattern is analyzed using statistical analysis. Sublethal effects are also monitored, e.g., gross appearance and behavior of the birds, body weights and feed consumption. Histopathological and physiological changes should be monitored.

This is a standard avian study.
